Black Swawn

Well, I know the Oscars are over, and I'm long over due for a favorite films of 2010 listing, however I wanted to take the time to mention a movie I recently rewatched.
"Black Swan"
directed by the amazing and talented Mr. Daren Aronofsky starring Natalie Portman. Now, not to be so biased, but Aronofsky has come to be one of my favorite film directors of the 21st century; I can honestly say that I enjoy his story telling techniques and am in awe of his visuals and in love with the charachters who embody his stories. I especially love all of his charachters who have deep-seeded psychological problems (which are mainly all of them). I do love the darkness and fairytellESQUE setting he creates in Black Swan. I loved this movie! The film seems to be filmed inside of a dollhouse with large, life-sized "dolls" playing the main roles. All of the characters seem multi-demensional on the inside yet on the outside are serene, lonely, lost and basically just crazy. You can only imagine what Natalie Portman's character has gone through in her lifetime while watching the film. You think you are about to hate her, and then she turns around and acts like a lunatic - then you just want to hold her and comfort her. It's sad and scary.

The film Black Swan is about an girl (Natalie Portman) raised and living with her overprotective mother (Barbara Hershey) who is losing her mind. They both live in a small Apt in NYC and both of their lives are devoted to Nina's (Portman's)obsession with ballet, which is also the mother's obsession as well - the mother is living her lost dreams through her daughter and in the process has lost herself. As the film develops, the main role for a rendition of "Swan Lake" is open, and Nina doesn't hold back. Her ballet instructor and director (Thomas Leroy) is skeptical about giving Nina the role, he knows she has the movements and motions memorized yet feels she lacks the passion to play both the "white" and the "black" swan roles. Enter Lily (Kunis) an out of town girl from LA who has nothing but passion for life. Nina is threatened by Lily, yet still manages to win the role as she viciously begs to be the swan princess. Nina and Kunis develop a twisted, sensual friendship as Nina begins to spiral into a dark world full of demented ballerina's, swan princesse's and sexual desire that all get tangled up into a fearful reality with a hauntingly beautiful yet sad ending.

Perfect movie, perfect score. some faults..yes, but not faulty enough to not completely enjoy. ****1/2
